Project Overview
As part of a brand relaunch, ALTU needed a new website to fit their updated look. I worked on both the UX and the UI for the new website, along side two of my colleagues. We held a UX workshop, conducted user research with stakeholders and created high fidelity prototypes for the client to review.
UX Challenges
When we began discussing the project with the client they informed us that they use BIM, which allows the user to create 3D models of buildings. With the current trend of 3D elements in web design I thought this would be a great project to try it out. However, when we sent the wireframes to the client they realised that gathering images, floor plans, sketches and 3D models for every project was not achievable. To avoid some projects looking like they were lacking content we ultimately decided to just use project images. I find that the most challenging part of any project is finding a balance between fulfilling our own desires as a designer and challenging ourselves, and sticking to what is achievable within the brief.

UI Challenges
ALTU already had strong branding, a professional video and strong imagery. We based the UI around their brand, incorporating the ‘A’ from the logo into the homepage video and throughout the subpages. The overlay graphic of the ‘A’ on the video proved to be a slight challenge as we needed to cooperate with the development team by giving them various sizes to fit different screen widths.
