W-Sport
Web Design
Client Background
W-Sport is a broadcasting company dedicated to women’s sport — offering live games, highlights, TV schedules, archive and feature content.

It operates in five countries and regions — Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia — so needed a new website that could be optimised and localised for these areas.
Problem Statement
W-Sport contact us to design and implement an innovative online platform that addresses the need for a centralized and inclusive hub for the rapidly expanding W-Sport movement, aiming to elevate the online presence of W-Sport as a premier provider. The platform should cater to the diverse needs of fans, competitors, sports federations, and TV broadcasters, fostering engagement and promoting women's sports on a global scale
My Role
As I was the lead UX & UI designer working on this project the majority of the responsibility fell on me. I had my project manager and other designers to reach out to for feedback and guidance.

I led the user research workshop with the client and designed both the wireframes and the high-fidelity designs and prototypes. I worked closely with the client at all stages of the design process and supported the hand-over to the development team.
The Process
1. UX Research
I conducted a client workshop that included site mapping, benchmarking and user persona activities.I researched competitors, leaders and trends in the sports industry

2. Wireframing
I created wireframes that included features to solve the problem statement and presented these to the client.Gathered client feedback and implemented it.

3. UI Design
I created a design system that included typography, colour palettes, iconography and design components.Used inspiration that I found during the research phase to create high-fidelity designs for each webpage.
4. Prototyping
I created a functioning prototype that the client could view all the web pages, hover effects and the search function.I presented this to the client and implemented any feedback.

5. Development
I handed the designs over to the development team and provided them with the necessary graphics and images at varying breakpoints.
I assisted the development team with any questions that they had and provided feedback to them.
UX Challenges
The 'Where To Watch' page is the main functionality of the site. On the original website, all the tv channel logos were just listed on one page. This required users to read a lot of information in order to find out where they can watch womens sport in their country.
In order to improve the usability of the site, I opted for a search bar where the user can simply type in the country they are viewing from and the available platforms will appear on the right.

UI Challenges
W-Sport is focused on energetic, passionate sports-women and I wanted to convey this through the website. I used a cut-out effect to give dimension and life to the imagery. I used a slanted graphic to mimic the 'W' in their logo and a torn edge to give it a more rugged look.
I wanted to add the team logos and country flags to the TV schedule but this was not feasible and this stage in the project as there would have been hundreds of logos to source and export. Some sections contain multiple layers, because of this I had to design mobile and tablet versions of them for the dev team. This was a little bit of extra work but overall I think it was worth it.
